SILVER JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS OF KARGIL VIJAY DIWAS ON 04 JULY 24 AT DELHI

1. On 04 July 2024, the Silver Jubilee of Kargil Vijay Diwas was commemorated with grandeur and reverence by 18 GRENADIERS (TIGER HILL PALTAN) at Delhi. The event celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the capture of Tiger Hill and honoured the heroes of the Kargil War.

2. The day began with the unveiling of a Special Cover by Gen Anil Chouhan PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, Chief of Defence Staff, alongwith Lt Gen Sanjay Mitra, AVSM, Colonel of the GRENADIERS Regiment, Maj Gen MK Khan, Additional Director General Army Postal Service, and Col S Mohanty, CO 18 GRENADIERS commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the capture of Tiger Hill. This symbolic gesture highlighted the bravery and strategic brilliance of the Indian Armed Forces during the Kargil War.

3. Following the unveiling ceremony, Gen Anil Chouhan, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, addressed the gathering at the Zorawar Auditorium. The audience comprised of 350 veterans, 38 Veernaris (war widows), 10 Veeranganas (female warriors), and 410 troops of the 18th Battalion The GRENADIERS Regiment. In his address, the Chief of Defence Staff paid tribute to the sacrifices and valor of the soldiers who fought in the Kargil War emphasizing the importance of remembering their legacy and carrying forward the spirit of dedication and courage.

4. After the address, the Chief of Defence Staff took time to interact personally with the war veterans. This interaction provided an opportunity for the veterans to share their experiences and for the Chief of Defence Staff to express the nation's gratitude for their service.

5. The celebrations continued with a Special Sainik Sammelan chaired by Lt Gen Sanjay Mitra, AVSM, Brig ML Poonia (Retd), and Col S Mohanty. This gathering provided a platform for soldiers and veterans to discuss their experiences and challenges, fostering a sense of camaraderie and shared purpose. 

6. Upon the completion of the Special Sainik Sammelan, Lt Gen Sanjay Mitra, AVSM interacted with the veterans, reinforcing the bond between the serving officers and the retired heroes. This interaction was a poignant reminder of the enduring spirit and unity within the Armed Forces.

7. The Platinum Jubilee celebrations of Kargil Vijay Diwas at Delhi were a fitting tribute to the courage and sacrifices of the soldiers who fought in the Kargil War. As the nation commemorates this milestone, we are reminded of the valor of our heroes and the unwavering spirit of the Indian Armed Forces.
