HONORING VALOUR: WREATH LAYING BY COMMANDANT, GRENADIERS RC AT MEMORIAL OF LATE CQMH ABDUL HAMID, PARAM VIR CHAKRA

1. On the 59th death anniversary of the esteemed Late CQMH Abdul Hamid, Param Vir Chakra of 4 GRENADIERS, a poignant wreath laying ceremony took place at his native village of Ghazipur, where a solemn tribute to one of India's most celebrated war heroes was paid by Commandant, GRENADIERS Regiment Centre, who laid wreath on behalf of Lieutenant General Sanjay Mitra, AVSM, Colonel, The GRENADIERS.

2. Late CQMH Abdul Hamid’s legacy is etched into the annals of Indian military history for his unparalleled bravery during the 1965 Indo-Pak War. His heroic actions on the battlefield, notably his relentless resistance against enemy tanks, remain a symbol of selfless patriotism for which he was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest military honour.

3. Brigadier Lalit Sharma, Sharuya Chakra, Sena Medal, Commandant GRENADIERS Regimental Centre on behalf of the entire Regiment and Indian Army expressed deep respect and admiration for the brave soldier’s extraordinary valour. The ceremony, held at ancestral home of Late CQMH Abdul Hamid, PVC, was attended by local dignitaries, veterans, and family members, all united in their reverence for a hero who laid down his life for the country.

4. The original RCL jeep of Late CQMH Abdul Hamid, PVC is preserved and is on display in The GRENADIERS Regimental Centre, Jabalpur to ensure that the war trophy reminds us of legacy of the brave Grinder and serves as an inspiration to the future generations. The jeep has been operationalised by liasioning with Vehicle Factory, Jabalpur and the RCL Gun is presently being overhauled by 506 Army Base Workshop, Jabalpur to make it serviceable.

5. The ceremony served as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by our armed forces and the indomitable spirit of individuals like CQMH Abdul Hamid. It was a heartfelt homage to a hero whose legacy will forever remain a guiding light for those who serve the nation with honour and bravery.

     The Grinders of Noida area broke the ice with their first get together on 04 May at Arun Vihar Institute sector 29 Noida. For a beginning, there was a healthy presence of 14, including 6 couples and 2 single officers.       Lt Gen Sanjay Mitra, AVSM, GOC 1 Corps visited 14 GRENADIERS on 17 Apr 2024 and interacted with the troops. He also interacted with the Regimental officers present in Leh during a social evening.    The General officer shared his experiences of the area and motivated them all to excel in tasks assigned to them, keeping up with the highest traditions of the Regt.
